2020 is a very special year for football fans. The European Championship is taking place and UEFA is taking advantage of this event and releasing a new app for ticket sales. The app is based on blockchain technology, which for most people is synonymous with crypto currencies like Bitcoin. Through the new payment system UEFA wants to sell more than one million tickets. Above all, the ticket black market should lose momentum as a result. The blockchain-based ticket system is to become a measure to improve the overall fan experience.

Thanks to the mobile system, fans should be able to enter the stadiums smoothly. The spectators will benefit from more security in the payment process and in the use of the tickets. The intriguing block chain prevents the expensive tickets from being replicated and duplicated. The QR codes of the tickets can be activated via Bluetooth as soon as the visitor is in the immediate vicinity of the stadium. The mobile ticket project is based on the successful pilot test during the UEFA Nations League in June 2019.
