The most important cornerstones of blockchain technology are transparency and high protection. In sport you count on these characteristics, for example when selling tickets or when it comes to doping. The ticket market offers a large platform for counterfeiters and thus harms sports facilities and clubs as well as the athletes themselves. Blockchain technology enables the origin of a ticket to be traced directly and the rightful owner to be determined. This offers more transparency of the ticket process and greater consumer security in the ticket market. There are still enormous data gaps in doping as well. A scandal attracted attention in 2016 when several Russian hackers infiltrated the database of the World Anti-Doping Agency and deleted information on athletes. With the help of the blockchain, this can be prevented in the future, as it does not rely on a central system.
