Why does everyone need their own car, lawnmower or washing machine? If you think about it more closely, there are countless things that are only used very rarely, but nevertheless almost everyone has lying around or standing around somewhere.

The best example: the car. Most of the day, the car is parked in front of the house or office door and is not used. So how about sharing things instead. The car sharing model also follows this basic idea. Car sharing offers a flexible range of vehicles for different purposes of use without having to own a car. The model is one of the mobility components of the environmental network. As the fourth pillar of the environmental alliance – in addition to public transport, walking and cycling – car sharing reduces the burden on the environment, is easy on the wallet, saves resources and makes an important contribution to saving energy in transport. There are now already around 2 million people who use car sharing. On average, German cars are parked unused on the side of the road for around 23 hours a day. Many carsharing users see no use in having their own car and get rid of it. Station-based carsharing vehicles are particularly popular in residential areas close to city centres. 78% of customers no longer have a car of their own. A single station-based car-sharing service replaces up to 20 private cars in these areas.
