In a position paper published on 30th October the Association of German Banks (BdB) spoke out in favour of the creation of a digital euro. The paper states that “responsibility for monetary order lies with the states” and that any money offered by banks or private companies must be in line with the state order. The banks are in favour of a digital euro on a cryptographic basis. However, this should only be created under the condition that a common Europe-wide payment platform is also set up. The German private banks are convinced that this form of digital money will rapidly gain importance in a digitalised economy.
