The largest suppliers in the e-scooter sector are currently Tier or Dott, both of whom recently announced their intention to become even more sustainable. Various approaches are being planned. Starting next year, they want to use 20% recycled material for new models or reconsider a “Second Life” solution for still working e-scotters.

Tier is the market leader in Europe in the field of micro-furniture. Its sustainability concept consists of replaceable batteries, which will be available in cafés and other shops in the future. A new model is also planned, which will allow the batteries to be changed independently. It is planned to start in Finland and, if successful, to continue throughout Europe. For the distribution, the company is currently looking for local partners in order to be able to set up charging stations. A foldable helmet and direction indicators for the driving direction are also planned.

Dott, a young Dutch supplier, was already present on the market from the beginning with exchangeable batteries and a high proportion of recycled materials. Dott already rents additional e-load trailers to the e-scooters. In 2021, the company wants to optimise the distribution of e-scooters in cities by using an e-van and to maintain a green supply to their warehouses. They want to expand successfully without “flooding” the roads.
After the e-scooters had to endure a lot of criticism regarding the eco-balance and battery systems, the right thought seems to have been sown. However, it is still open where the concepts will develop. We are curious what the future will bring.
