LG CNS, LG’s IT subsidiary, is launching a new dimension of cashless payment. A combination of artificial intelligence, cloud servers and block chain technology will make face-to-face payments possible without any contact whatsoever. LG CNS has been testing the new payment system in an in-house restaurant since March. Employees can now pay automatically and without physical contact after successful identification via face recognition. The company is introducing a block-chain-based community currency for this purpose. Contactless payment is not only convenient according to LG CNS, it could also offer valuable advantages during the Corona pandemic. Unlike other cashless payment methods such as credit cards or mobile phones, physical contact is completely eliminated.

To make this possible, the company uses a terminal equipped with artificial intelligence. Those who agree in advance to register with account information and facial data can pay by looking into the camera. As soon as the system identifies the person via AI face recognition technology, payment is made. While the use of biometric data is always viewed critically, in times of Corona, useful applications are certainly conceivable. In the previous test phase, identification also worked when a mouth-nose guard covered the face.
