German sporting goods manufacturer Adidas announced that it has entered into a partnership with crypto exchange Coinbase. However, the brand is thus not the first in this industry to prepare for the digital world. Nike, its direct competitor, already filed several new trademarks immediately after Facebook announced it was changing its corporate name to Meta. These filings point to wanting to manufacture as well as sell virtual trainers and apparel.

According to the US Patent and Trademark Office, Nike filed applications for the brand’s famous slogan “Just Do It” and the “Swoosh” logo on 27 October 2021. The following day, two more applications were filed for the “Air Jordan” and “Jumpman” logos. These were a total of seven different applications.
