Many different companies from all over the world took part in a tender to decide who should work on the development of a digital vaccination certificate. In addition to the US giant “Microsoft”, several start-ups also applied. The permission for the development then went to the German company Ubirchs, which will now create the digital vaccination certificate together with IBM.
As early as January, a small district in Bavaria introduced a digital passport on a test basis, which can be called up on the mobile phone in the form of a QR code based on blockchain technology. Because the Cologne-based company is already established in terms of databases and certificates, they were also able to prevail in the tender.
