Austria’s capital Vienna will go into test operation with its “culture token” developed with block chain technology at the end of the month. The city recently announced this on its website. The concept behind it works as follows: Using an app, Vienna residents can earn tokens through climate-friendly behavior. The app is equipped with GPS location recording and records walks through the city, cycling or the use of public transport and rewards the distances covered with tokens. The tokens collected can be used for visits to the Vienna Volkstheater, Wien Museum, Kunsthalle and Wiener Konzerthaus. The city also plans to plant trees for the collected tokens at the end of the test phase.
